Many dutch managers monitor mailtraffic

- 66% of dutch companies routinely monitor employees' email messages. At the same time, another third of dutch companies also actively monitor chatsessions.
 
Dutch managers belong to the European top with this. Only in Spain and France, personnel is more often monitored on its digital contacts. This appears from research of Hitachi among almost sevenhundred IT-Directors of European companies.
 
66% Of the employers in The Netherlands monitor the mailtraffic regularly. For Instant Messaging (IM) is this percentage 31%. Employers monitor a little less often in Belgium. 57 Percent of companies monitor email on regular base in this country and 40% also has an eye to IM-traffic.
 
Approximately, for european companies the percentages are respectively 57 percent and 36 percent. Spain and France dominate the other countries by far, while respectively 77 percent and 71 percent of the employers monitor the use of email.
 
According to the storage solutions provider, most of the measures are not very popular among the employees, but the necessity for monitoring is getting bigger because of new policy rules.
 
"New rules about responsibilities and the IT-cost pressure start to have influence on business means of communication", says Tony Reid, marketing director at Hitachi.
 
"Within one year, we think most companies will invest in special managementsytems for email and similar technologies".
