Quad-head PC-over-IP portal Overview: Look around the typical workplace and you will find hundreds, possibly thousands, of computers stacked under desks generating heat, noise and consuming huge amounts of power – probably more than the building was designed to supply. The air-conditioning system will be working overtime to maintain a comfortable working environment and technicians have to crawl around under cluttered desks whenever a fault occurs. Think how much better it would be if you could move all of these computers away from the desk, out of the building, without degrading the users ‘computing experience.’ Users retain their powerful, multi-display setups but the noise, the heat and the clutter are gone. Amulet Hotkey PC-over-IP® (PCoIP®) based products make this possible. Using PCoIP, workstations are ‘back-racked’ away from the workplace and connected to the user over a standard LAN or WAN connection. A PCoIP Host (transmitter) is used to analyse, compress, encrypt and transmit pixel, audio and USB data to the desktop where a PCoIP Portal (receiver) decodes the data for the user. PC-over-IP (PCoIP®)is an innovative protocol that eliminates the need for workstations to be located in the working environment. It delivers an uncompromised user experience to each desk - anywhere, avoiding the security risks associated with transmitting data across a network or having the data reside in the workplace PCs. In its simplest form, PCoIP allows you to ‘put your workstations somewhere else.’ Everything else remains the same. Your basic distributed workstation model, server and LAN architecture does not change. It is ideally suited for Financial applications, Command & Control centers, Militiary and Secure computing applications, CAD / CAM design groups, Utilities, Education, Government, Medical and Industrial Control and Public Services. All Amulet Hotkey Portals have been certified as compatible with View 4tm by VMware. This means that the Portals can now link to any back-racked vitual workstation allowing power users, knowledge workers and administrative staff alike to benefit from the superior performance and enhanced security provided by PCoIP. Thanks to View 4 compatibility, the goal of a unified desktop throughout the enterprise is now achievable. The DXR4-iP is Amulet Hotkey's premier desktop portal and is designed to be used in quad-head, power user applications where high end performance and total dependability are paramount. The DXR4-iP supports 4 widescreen displays (1920 x 1200), all USB devices* and high definition audio. It is available with support for either copper (DXR4-iP) or fibre (DXR4-iPF) network connections. The DXR4-iP is a ‘stateless’ or ‘zero client’ device. Unlike a thin-client, it holds no data and has no accessible operating system to secure or maintain. All USB device authorisation is performed by the DXR4-iP ‘out of band’ preventing malicious access to the remote workstation. The DXR4-iP is smaller and uses far less power (less than 26W excluding USB peripherals) than a typical workstation or thin-client and contributes little heat or noise to the working environment. It is easily configured using an on screen menu and, depending on network quality and bandwidth, provides the user with a ‘perception free’ computing experience. When linked to a suitable remote host such as the Amulet Hotkey DXM610 Blade Workstation or dual DXPC cards, it allows a quad-head computer to be located remotely or 'back-racked' safely away from the working environment. Back-racking has a number of benefits in the workplace: reduced noise and heat at the desktop reduced load on workplace air-conditioning equipment reduced demand for power in the workplace computing resources can be centralised break /fix times become shorter security is enhanced hardware reliability is improved
